Widgets rotate on an hours scale rather than on a fixed schedule, so a widget that looks stuck may simply not be due yet. Give it a few hours before assuming something is wrong.

If it stays frozen for much longer, the usual cause is battery optimisation. On Android, some manufacturers aggressively restrict background work, so check your system battery settings for Wick and allow it to run in the background. On iOS, Low Power Mode delays widget refreshes until you turn it off.

That means the widget is pointing at a collection that no longer exists, usually because it was deleted. Open the app, go to the Widgets tab, and either point that widget at a different collection or delete it.

A brand-new collection with no quotes in it yet will also show a placeholder. Add a quote and the widget will pick it up at its next refresh.

First make the widget in the app, choosing a collection, a font, and a background, and save it under a name. Then place it from the home screen itself, which is something the operating system handles rather than the app.

On iPhone: touch and hold an empty area of the home screen, tap the + button in the corner, search for Wick, choose a size, and add it. Then touch and hold the placed widget, tap Edit Widget, and pick the widget you made by name.

On Android: touch and hold an empty area of the home screen, tap Widgets, find Wick, and drag the size you want into place. You'll be asked which of your saved widgets it should show as you drop it.

Export them before you switch. In Settings → Your data, tap Export and the app writes every collection and quote to a single file, then hands it to your share sheet. Mail it to yourself, drop it in Files, or put it wherever you like. On the new phone, install the app and use Import to read that file back in. Import adds; it never replaces what's already there, so running it twice is harmless.

One thing the file doesn't carry is your widgets. Those point at home screen slots that can't travel between devices, so you'll place them again on the new phone. Your quotes and collections all come across.

Do it in that order and nothing depends on luck. Your phone's own migration tool (Apple's device-to-device transfer, or Google's backup and restore during Android setup) may well carry the app's data across too, but that's handled by the operating system and isn't something the app controls, so don't rely on it for anything irreplaceable.

There's still no cloud copy and no sync, by design. The export file is the backup, and making one is up to you.

Unfortunately not. Deleting a collection removes its quotes from the device immediately, and there's no server-side copy for me to restore, because the app never sends your content anywhere. The confirmation prompt is the only safety net, which is why it spells out what will be removed.

Yes. Settings has sixteen typefaces to choose from, covering rounded, sans, serif, display, monospace and handwritten, each with a live preview, plus a slider for the text size. Widgets and share cards carry their own font, chosen when you make them, so a serif widget stays serif no matter what the in-app setting says.

It works entirely offline: every feature, with no connection at all. There's no account and no advertising.

It does send anonymous usage and crash data when it can reach the network, so I can see which features get used and what's breaking. That's counts and labels only: the length of a quote, never the quote; whether you filled in an author, never the name. Nothing you write is ever transmitted. The Privacy Policy lists every field and names the one company that receives it.

iPhone running iOS 16.4 or later, and Android phones running Android 7.0 or later. The app is portrait-only and designed for phones; it isn't built for iPad or tablets yet.
